Should people know I am a Christian?
I'm just back from the OCF WA Easter camp and looking forward to the two non-teaching weeks ahead of me to catch up on work and rest. Working on the April issue of "My Journey" which should be out shortly!
For I resolved to know nothing while I was with you except Jesus Christ and him crucified. I came to you in weakness with great fear and trembling. My message and my preaching were not with wise and persuasive words, but with a demonstration of the Spirit's power, so that your faith might not rest on human wisdom, but on God's power. (1 Corinthians 2:1-5, TNIV)

oh man i can't believe this.. i typed a really long post.. hah and it got washed away...
haah.. i think that as Christians there's no need to declare anything.. i think people eventually can see that we truly are different..if we choose to live like JESUS! tt said it's not something that can necesarily be seen immediately.. i think after some period of interaction.. people can see.. from the way he speaks, the words he chooses to say, the way he frames his converstions, the way he conducts himself, the convictions he has, the optimism and hope that he exudes in every single choice/action he makes..
it's really like what your verse up there says.. 1 cor 2
you don't have to declare: i'm christian.. instead pp will ask: are you christian? (: ahah..
yeah some lengthy thoughts.. but i think it's so true.. just .. be like Jesus.. tt quiet confidence tt quiet assurance.. that little beam of light in the midst of darkenss & chaos... (:
hey mags, i like that... "that quiet confidence that quiet assurance" we could exude without being overly "Christian"? i think that perhaps being Christian no longer suggests to the world those things you pointed out. in the media all we hear about are Christians who are anti-abortion, anti-contraceptives, anti-GLBT and anti-everything else. we hear about Christians who are pedophiles, cheats and liars. sometimes i wish i could stop labelling myself a Christian. but then, somehow we need to be categorised somewhere...
haha i didn't quite understand that :S
iyou mean Christians, those truly passionate about their faith, need to be categorised somewhere?
haha confused confused..
no, i guess i mean that we need to somehow reclaim the Christian label. i'm not embarressed to be a Christian, but i cringe everytime i hear about Christians who perpetuate the stereotype that we are a bunch of ultra right-wing crazy people...
oh okay haha now i get it..reclaim the christian label. yeh i think i heard you say this before.. one of the random conversations over adam road breakfast haha..
"church/world: which is peripheral to the other?" haha..
